An Inverurie hair salon scooped a top national award in recognition of its eco-friendly project.
Élan Hair Design won the award for Energy Efficiency Project of the Year as the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards.
The local salon which is thought to be the UK’s most eco-friendly hair salon use recyclable materials and photo-voltaic panels to generate electricity and solar thermal panels to provide energy for hot water.
The installation of LED lighting has seen the salon use 80% less electricity and environmentally-friendly basins have cut water consumption by 64%.
Élan director, Lorna Milton said that she was delighted to see the business receive the honour.
She said: “It just goes to show what can be achieved, regardless of the size or location of your business.”
Over 600 people representing their organisations, as well as entrepreneurs and social enterprises attended the ceremony which was held at The Brewery, London.
The company triumphed over fellow nominees including the Carbon Trust, Liverpool Football Club and SC Johnson, which produces household cleaning products including Mr Muscle.
The business was recently named as a finalist for the Green Award at the Northern Star Business Awards. The event takes place on Thursday, September 25 at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
