AN ELLON toddlers group have reason to be cheerful after winning an award of £5,600 from the Big Lottery Fund to refurbish their garden.
Auchterellon Under 5s have used the money to buy a new climbing frame and shed, outdoor chalk boards and garden planters, and all weather playground surfacing and decking.
Spokeswoman Claire Bentley told the Times that the money was a big help to the group, and that the improvements to the outdoor area would make it a more enjoyable experience for the children.
“We found out that our bid had been successful just before the summer holidays, however we weren’t allowed to say anything to anyone about it until now. The money is a huge help to us, and we were able to have the work completed over the summer to minimise the disruption to the kids.
“We’ve wanted to buy a climbing frame for a while, but knew it would be very expensive getting it set up according to strict health and safety regulations. Initially we anticipated we might get half what we asked for, but in the event we got the whole claim.
“We do a huge amount of work fundraising, so being able to spend money on facilities like these for the kids is very helpful.”
She added her thanks to those involved with the bid, and the businesses and parents who support the nursery as a matter of routine.
“The group are very grateful to Awards for All Scotland for this donation, but also wish to thank all of the local businesses and parents who helped transform the garden over the summer holidays,” she said. “Fundraising is essential to the everyday running of this group but it has been brilliant to be able to spend this money on something that will really change the way the children play and learn.”
