A former Ellon Academy pupil has graduated from the North East Scotland College in Aberdeen.

Colin Harris, 34, achieved an HND in sound production.

When Colin left Ellon Academy in 1995, he studied motor vehicle engineering at Aberdeen College.

He then spent several years as a carer before moving to Leeds to study at Leeds College of Music.

Colin moved back to Aberdeen in 2010 and started a transportation business.

But he felt that a further qualification would help him find a job in the career he desired - music engineering.

Colin explained: “I really felt that I had reached an ‘it’s now or never’ time to get into the industry so I took the decision to apply to study HND sound production at North East Scotland College.

“The location of the college was a factor in my decision to study in Aberdeen but I was also blown away by the brand new industry-standard facilities on site. We were really lucky to be the first year of classes to use the purpose-built facilities in Aberdeen City Campus.”

Colin has recently started working in Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom as a sound and light technician.

He said, “I’m enjoying another new challenge – the job is really varied and interesting so far.

“To anyone studying Sound Production at North East Scotland College, I would say to make the most of the great facilities in the college while you are a student.

“Hands on experience is crucial when looking for work and all of the facilities are there for you while you are studying so make the most of it.”
