Ellon students take the plunge for charity

TWO sixth year pupils from Ellon Academy will be plunging into the North Sea on Boxing Day to help raise funds for a North East charity.

Becca Allan and Kayleigh Moy were part of a team who nominated Inspire as their chosen charity through the Youth Philanthropy Initiative at Ellon Academy. Despite the YPI project being completed, the pair have continued to show their support for the charity by signing up to the annual ‘Nippy Dip’ and offering to volunteer for the charity as well.

Setting off from Aberdeen Beach Leisure Centre, dippers are encouraged to race to the sea and get in and out quickly, spending just enough time in the water to ‘blow away the Christmas blues’ but not long enough to turn themselves blue.

Inspire provide support to hundreds of individuals throughout the North East with learning disabilities and additional support needs.

Becca Allan said: “As we have agreed to continue supporting Inspire we felt that the Nippy Dip was a perfect opportunity. Most people think we’re mad running into the North Sea on Boxing Day, but we are really excited to help raise funds for such a rewarding charity!”

Fiona Poustie, Head of Business Development and Fundraising at Inspire said: “We are delighted that the pupils from Ellon Academy have continued to support Inspire following their YPI partnership. The girls are truly an inspiration and have been very closely involved in supporting our work first hand.

“These are hard economic times particularly for the hundreds of vulnerable individuals that we support. We increasingly rely upon the generosity of kind hearted members of the public who give up their time or offer financial assistance to those less fortunate than themselves. The students from Ellon have certainly shown tremendous support to our work.”

Anyone else interested in entering the Nippy Dip, which will be held on December 26 at 10.30am, are asked to contact Sarah Farquhar on 01224 289010.
