A dance group has been given a funding boost from a fashion night in Ellon.

More than 200 people attended the event in the town’s New Inn, which was arranged to help support a trip to Canada next year by the Rosaline Hendry School of Highland Dancing.

Around 20 youngsters are expected to head for Vancouver at the beginning of July to take part in the ScotDance Canada Championship.

Gillian Robertson, who organised last Wednesday’s fashion show, told the Times: “We don’t have a final total yet but we hope to have raised about £2000.

“We still have one or two items to deduct from the evening before we know exactly how much was raised.

“We were absolutely delighted with the turn-out and it was a very good night.”

Clothes for the fashion event were provided by The Fountain in Inverurie and J&K Shoes in Ellon.

The dancers started fundraising for the trip in December last year.

Gillian said: “We have held a number of events throughout 2013 and we are trying to raise as much money as we can for next summer’s trip.”

The ScotDance Championship will held from July 2-6 in Vancouver.

The ScotDance Canadian Championship Series features the Canadian Highland Dancing Championships, and the ScotDance Canada Open Championships.

Last year’s event was held in Montreal and the 2015 championship venue will be London, Ontario.
