Meldrum Academy Performing Arts Faculty are presenting “Sunshine on Leith” - featuring songs by the Proclaimers.

The musical was first performed at Dundee Rep in April, 2007, and has recently been made into a film starring Jane Horrocks and Peter Mullan.

It’s a lively show that revolves around the family, lives and loves of two recently discharged British Army servicemen.

The production features many famous songs by The Proclaimers such as “Letter from America”, “I’m on My Way” and most famous of all “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).

The students auditioned for the show in June and began rehearsing in August.

The musical will run from Wednesday, December 9, till Friday, December 11, with all performances starting at 7.30pm in Meldrum Academy.

It involves more than 70 pupils from S1 to S6 (including performers, backstage crew, sound, lighting). The production team consists of various members of staff and has been strongly supported by the local community. The show’s director is John Paterson.

Tickets are available (£6/£4) from Meldrum Library, Meldrum Academy school office and Daisy Roots Florist in Oldmeldrum Square.
