An Ellon breastfeeding group held a Teddy Bears picnic on Monday.

Boobs and Banter organised the event for Breastfeeding Awareness Week.

The picnic had to be moved indoors due to rain, but that did not spoil the mood. Pieces of fruit and homemade cakes were shared among the mothers and babies.

Friends, Gemma Hutchinson, Jenny McLoughlin and Gill Duff set up the group over one year ago. After going to the same anti-natal class, they felt that there was no support system for new mothers or those who were struggling with motherhood.

Gemma said: “NHS Grampian asked if we would hold this event and said that they would provide us with the t-shirts for the babies.

“We raise all our own money ourselves. Companies have supplied us with breast pumps, cushions and books.”

Jenny said: “It’s good to come to the meetings after a bad day and have a moan.”

The group meet every week in the Old Academy building in Ellon from 1-3pm. It has its own Facebook page where 90% of the followers are local.

Jenny added: “We can ask questions on the group page in the middle of the night, someone else is always awake.”

The group has members ranging from first time mothers to those having their fourth child.
