A Newburgh mother-of-seven received an HNC in social care at a recent graduation ceremony at Banff and Buchan College.

Following the birth of her youngest child, Jeanette Dow enrolled on the HNC Social Care course, delivered via flexible learning at her local outreach centre in Ellon.

Jeanette said: “I found the course to be very family-friendly - both flexible and easy to fit around a large family and a new baby.

“I think that having a local/rural college which offers outreach centre study is vital to the Aberdeenshire community.”

Having found the course challenging but extremely rewarding, Jeanette hopes to complete a degree at Robert Gordon University.

Curriculum leader Lisa Buchan said: “Jeanette and her classmates are to be warmly congratulated on their HNCs.

“Studying via flexible learning requires determination, motivation and self-discipline which they have all shown throughout their course.”

The graduation recognised the achievements of students who successfully completed their studies in a wide range of Higher National Certificate and Diploma courses at the college and outreach centres in 2012/13.
