THE ever-popular Primary Schools Quiz, organised by Ellon Rotary Club, took place on March 21, hosted this year by Meiklemill Primary.

Before the event there was some speculation on the possibility of Meiklemill getting a hat-trick, having won for the past two years. The four teams taking part were Auchterellon, Foveran, Meiklemill and Newburgh Mathers, plus a team of ‘Reserves’. The quiz was run by Rotarians Mick and Hilary Gordon with 10 six-question rounds over a wide range of topics, Excitement mounted as the cumulative scores were announced at the end of each round, building up to a close but well-deserved victory by the Newburgh Primary team, comprising Calum Cumming, Eleanor Harper, Johnnie MacKay and Scott Cumming, with reserve John Leith. The winners will now proceed to the next stage of the competition, the Area heat to be held on 18th May at Meldrum Academy.

The event was organised by Rotarian Dave Torry from the Vocational Service and Youth Committee of the Club, who congratulated all the teams for their impressive range of knowledge and presented the winners their trophy and certificates.
