A student from Balmedie has been presented with an award at a formal ceremony held recently at North East Scotland College.

Craig Pirie (17), who has been studying SVQ Carpentry and Joinery at the College, received an achievement award for demonstrating outstanding commitment and dedication throughout his course.

In nominating him for an award, Craig’s lecturer said, “Craig first came to College on a schools link programme prior to starting an apprenticeship. This resulted in him attending college to study carpentry and joinery where he has shown himself to be an excellent student.

"Just over a year ago, Craig became ill and missed several weeks at College. The side effects of his illness made catching up with his work even more difficult but Craig was determined to succeed.

"By adopting a variety of study techniques, he successfully completed his first year. Craig has now almost finished his second year at College, passing every assessment to date, and is well on his way to completing his course.”

The Student Excellence Awards ceremony saw 26 students from across the College presented with awards by Rick Macleod, Client Manager Scotland from ceremony sponsor Ede & Ravenscroft, and Doug Duthie from the College’s Board of Management.
