Gordon Park Playgroup celebrated its quarter century last Friday, by planting a commemorative tree in their garden.
Playgroup chairperson Elaine Cartney, together with parents, staff and children, enjoyed a gloriously sunny afternoon for the ceremony as they all gathered together in the garden.
The playgroup, situated in the Gordon Park Pavillion, runs a 2s group twice a week, and the playgroup for threes and up five mornings a week.
The newly-planted cherry blossom will sit in the corner of the garden where it will border the public area of the park.
For Gordon Park playleader Maryanne Leask, the planting of a tree at this time was symbolic for a number of reasons.
“Gordon Park Playgroup is an ‘Eco School’ with silver award status”, she said. “We thought it would be a good way of celebrating the children’s eco work and our 25th anniversary.
“At the same time, it was also a way of saying goodbye to all our children who are moving on to nursery”, she continued.
Expressing gratitude for the support which the playgroup has had from parents, Maryanne went on: “I would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Elaine Cartney for being such a wonderful chairperson.”
