Salmond hails local school funding

First Minister Alex Salmond has congratulated two local schools in his constituency on securing Awards for All grants totalling £14,475 from the Big Lottery Fund.

Tipperty School received a grant of £7,800 for playground improvements, including the installation of colourful “wetpour markings” for engaging and educational playground games.

Mintlaw Academy was also awarded £6,675 to run a fitness, health and wellbeing project targeted at young people. The project includes gym sessions alongside advice on healthy eating and lifestyle. The grant will be allocated towards acquiring exercise equipment, including five spinning bikes, two rowing machines and two elliptical trainers.

Awards for All Scotland is supported by Creative Scotland, sportscotland and the Big Lottery Fund and grants of between £500 and £10,000 are available to groups and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community.
