A charity set up to help rebuild schools in earthquake-hit Nepal has been given a major boost by Auchnagatt School.

The school has donated more than £6000 through various fundraising activities.

A cheque for £6300.66 was recently handed over to Pauline Sanderson, co-founder of the charity In Your Hands, when she paid a visit and gave a presentation to pupils.

Auchnagatt School first became involved with the charity more than a year ago when Amber, then in P3, wanted to help children in Nepal after hearing a talk on the organisation’s work given by Pauline in Aviemore.

Amber’s father Norman raised more than £1600 by taking part in the Highlander Mountain Marathon and his employers px Ltd, who run a Give as You Earn scheme, agreed to match the sum raised by the school.

After discussion with pupil council, the profits from the summer show were also donated.

The school was matched with Sidhartha School in Hagam Province, one of a similar size to Auchnagatt.

The amount raised is expected to more than cover the cost of rebuilding Sidhartha.
