TWO Ellon Academy pupils are stepping up their efforts to raise the funds they need to go on a school trip next summer.
Jordan Thorn, 14, and Ciaran Fines, 15, along with other Ellon pupils, are doing World Challenge 2014 which will take them to Tanzania, where they will spend a month working with underprivileged communities.
Pupils from Ellon have taken part in the event enthusiastically in recent years. In order to take advantage of the exciting learning opportunity, they each have to raise £4,300.
The boys, aided by mums Tracy and Wendy, have been organising various fundraising events to reach their target, the latest of which will be an 80s fancy dress disco in the Station Hotel, Ellon, on Saturday (May 11) at 8pm.
Earlier this year, Jordan was among a group who held a race night in the Station Hotel, which brought in £1,000.
Tracy said: “We are hoping for around 100 people for the fancy dress event. It is difficult trying to think up different fundraising events.
“We came up with the idea of an 80s themed night and are hoping it will be well supported.”
Tickets for the fundraiser are £6 and can be obtained by contacting Tracy on 07771924102.
Another event, a psychic night, will be held in the Station Hotel on Friday, August 30.
