TwO cheerleading teams from Ellon Academy are celebrating after winning awards at a major dance event.
The junior group were runners up and the senior team came third in their categories in the recent City of Aberdeen Dance Championships.
They were up against strong opposition and the performances - after just over a year together - have delighted coach and PE teacher Lindsey Meacher.
She told the Times: “I am so proud of them. They work hard, twice a week after school. They come every week, listen and are prepared to push themselves and learn new skills.
“That was what was good about the competition, to see the standard of the other groups and try and get better.”
The Ellon pupils were among 15 teams taking part and their success has left them eager to take part in more competitions.
Lindsey said: “We have a competition here on March 28 but there is a Cheer Festival in Inverness on June 2 and I’m hoping we will get to enter that as well.”
The teams were given a recent boost when they took delivery of £1,800 worth of new kit, which was funded through the school, Active Schools, and their own fundraising activities.
Their coach added: “A lot of first years have joined since they came up to the academy, so there is great enthusiasm for cheerleading.”
