YOUNGSTERS at Cultercullen School received a big surprise when they completed a project on Ancient Greece,
For local torchbearer Evelyn Capper visited into the small school near Ellon to talk about her Olympic experience.
Evelyn, from Ellon, carried the flame on the final stage of its journey through Aberdeen and lit the cauldron in the Castlegate.
She recalled the special occasion to P1-4 pupils at Cultercullen, who were dressed in Greek costume for the day.
They have been busily involved in the project throughout the term, taking work home, getting books from the local library and involving their families.
The children responded enthusiatically to Evelyn’s talk and asked many questions about the torch and its journey to Scotland.
Class teacher Laura Campbell said: “We were delighted that Evelyn was able to come along.
“We have been building up to the Olympics and looking at Ancient Greece and how it started off with the Olympics.
“We have been doing drama and performing and acting out the first Olympics and looking at the torch and its movement round Great Britain as well. Quite a lot of kids went to see the torch when it was in Aberdeen.”
Evelyn said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and telling the children about what was an amazing experience for me, and one I will never forget.”
