An 89-year-old woman has died following a serious road traffic collision in Ellon on Saturday morning.

The woman was hit by a blue Peugeot 208 driven by a 65-year-old female as she was crossing the bridge on South Road at around 10.37am.

The pedestrian, named as Mary Donald, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but has sadly died.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

Sergeant Rob Warnock, from the Aberdeenshire and Moray Road Policing Unit, said: “First and foremost our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Mary who was well known in the Ellon area.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information who hasn’t yet come forward to contact Police Scotland on 101.’’
