Ellon Baptist Church has been running summer missions / holiday clubs for several years now and one has been running throughout this weekin the town.

The church is affiliated to the Scottish Baptist Union and each year Step-out teams, which can consist of 4-10 volunteering teenagers from all the baptist churches across Scotland, go through some training sessions.

They are then sent out to churches which have requested a team to come and assist in whatever they may want to do in terms of clubs, youth work, outreach work.

This year the church has had a team of four assisting with members of the church in running a holiday club for primary age in the morning at the Guide Hut.

Malcolm Coutie, spokesman for the church, said: “This year saw a really big demand for places without doing any real publicity. We had to have a waiting list over the last few weeks.”

Secondary school pupils can head along to the evening sessions which are very much about games, chat and a time-out session where the leaders share a bit about themselves.

Malcolm added: “We had 15-20 people on Monday, mainly girls, a mixture of our church teens and their friends - the Ythan Centre is a great location for it.”
