Ythanvale CareHome has been hosting a ‘holiday at home’ week for residents who are unable to get out and about in the sun.
Activites started on Saturday, July 13, whenthe residents were treated to a strawberry tea followed by some entertainment.
Over the course of the week the home welcomed different entertainers and various day trips. Assistant manager Ann Milne said: “We went to the residents and asked them what sort of things they would like to do and planned events and activites around them.
“The strawberry tea kicked off the week and it went really well, it was great. On Sunday we went out on a bus trip to The Happy Plant, Mintlaw as well. It’s about working towards social stimulation and improving the lives of others.”
As well as working at the home, Ann is chairperson of Friends of Ythanvale.
She explained: “We raise money so that the residents can get the little luxury things that they otherwise would not get. We try and provide the things that the council simply can’t afford.”
Not only does the home, which has 30 residents, receive help from the Friends of Ythanvale, but they get support from the Royal Voluntary Service (formally the WRVS).
Ann said: “We receive support from all the staff at the home, the rotary and many volunteers and we have also have our own gardener who volunteers.”
The next event is a quiz night which will be held at the golf club on Friday, October 4.
Friends of Ythanvale are always looking to welcome any new volunteers .
