Ellon caterers on award-winning menu

An Ellon catering business has been shortlisted for a top award.

Thistle Catering Services is a finalist in the Scottish Weddings Awards, which will be judged later this month.

Owner Lorraine Smith and her team have been nominated in the “Independent Caterer of the Year” category.

The company moved into premises in Castlepark Industrial Estate less than two years ago in response to growing demand for corporate and wedding catering.

Thistle caters for weddings, business meetings, parties, summer shows and other events. It sources the best local food produce as much as possible.

Lorraine, who has a team of five at her Ellon premises, said the nomination was a complete surprise.

She told the Times: “We are over the moon to be nominated. It is unexpected but we are delighted.

“It is a reflection of everyone’s hard work and we really appreciate our customers voting for us.”

Marcelo De Araujo, one of Thistle’s chefs, added: “We were not expecting this, so it is nice to be recognised.”

The Scottish Weddings Awards aim to recognise and reward hard work and dedication to the wedding industry.

Finalists were shortlisted based on the votes received from customers, who have been voting over the last few months.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow on Tuesday, February 24.
