Ellon and District Councillor Gillian Owen recently declined an invitation to see the progress of the Queens Baton relay.

The local councillor said that she passed up on the offer because she knew that the residents in Ellon ‘were very upset that yet again the town had been missed out from the relay route’.
Councillor Owen said: “Once again Ellon has been missed out on the Queens Baton Relay, the Olympic Baton missed us as well and this has caused a huge amount of angst locally.”

However the councillor added that she was looking forward to the games.

She said: “I welcome the Commonwealth Games to Scotland and particularly Glasgow and look forward to a successful event! In my view, the Baton could easily have travelled from Peterhead on the A90 taking in towns like, Ellon, Newburgh and Balmedie, still getting to the Royal Aberdeen Golf Course and then my residents would have been included too!”
