Despite the poor weather, the fundraising event organised by Ellon Inner Wheel was well supported and raised the magnificent total of over £500 for local and national charities.

Elaine Lindsay of “Something Corny” gave a talk, slide show and demonstration of her straw work. She has been a straw artist for over 30 years and travels all over the world to demonstrate her craft. Using old fashioned varieties of grain which have longer stalks she fashions a wide variety of items including birds, horseshoes and hearts, corn dollies and Hairst brooches. She explained that straw is a very versatile material which can be plaited in hundreds of different ways, while straw thread can be used to embroider, crochet and knit. She has provided props for theatre, TV and magazines, worked for well known fashion designers and her designs have appeared on the catwalks in London and New York.
