An Ellon minister has bid farewell in his last service at St Mary-on-the-Rock.
The Rev Canon Peter Mander and his wife, Mari, are moving to his new appointment at Otterburn in Northumberland, where he will be a member of a team ministry.
Before the rector’s last service in the town on January 25, the couple were entertained to a ‘bring and share’ supper in the church hall on the Friday evening attended by a large number of the congregation, during which they were presented with farewell gifts of a quaich and cheque.
At Mr Mander’s final Sunday morning service, there was a full church including representatives of other churches.
This was followed by another small presentation of a farewell cake.
Mr Mander moved to Ellon from Lincolnshire six years ago and he and his wife were credited with contributing a great deal to the life of the church.
The St Mary’s congregation are sorry to see him leave but wish him well in his new post.
Services in St Mary’s, Ellon, and St James, Cruden Bay, will continue as normal while a new Rector is sought.
These are being taken by other priests who are already members of the congregation, assisted by others of the lay ministry teams.
