Ellon Parish Church minister, Reverend Alastair Bruce, has been settling into his role after moving to the area earlier this year.

He became a minister for the first time when he was ordained and inducted in May and has since been kept busy within the community.

All is going really well, I’m really happy to be here

He said: “All is going really well, I’m really happy to be here.

“They all tell you when you train that you shouldn’t try to change anything in the first year.

“I think that is a really good piece of advice but I have found that people were champing at the bit for change.”

Alastair, 39, is originally from Dalkeith, near Edinburgh, and was not previously considering moving his family quite as far away as Ellon.

However, after sending a speculative application to the Parish Church and receiving a positive response from both the Church and the community, Alastair decided Ellon was the right place for him and his family.

“God basically just chose it for me,” said Alastair.

“I want to get to know people and get to know the position of the Church.

“It’s about trying to listen to what God is telling me and what to do in the town and try and inspire the people in the Church and their faith.”

“I’m here to lead the Church and serve the Church as well.”

He added: “In the long term I want to be looking at what are needs in the community and how can the Church serve the community.

“The Church has a lot of potential and I will listen to what God is planning and try get on board with that.

Alastair added: “It’s the best job I’ve ever had.”
