ELLON’s RBL Pipe Band are currently seeking new members to help make 2013 a year to remember.
The band, established 40 years ago, comprises around 30 members of all ages and abilities, and are keen to welcome anyone - experienced or learner - who is interested in taking up a rewarding hobby.
Speaking to the Times, Pipe Major Stuart Robertson said that the band had gone from strength to strength over the course of 2012, and that it was keen to keep up the good work in 2013.
He said: “As always, the band have had another busy year attending a variety of different functions including private engagements, local gala days and fetes as well as higher profile events such as the annual Braemar Gathering. This year also included the return of the Dufftown Highland Games to the band’s calendar. The band also competed at a number of local competitions, receiving a creditable 7th place at the Aberdeen Highland games.
“Last year also saw the marriage of their long-serving members, Mr Colin Grant and Mrs Gillian Grant. Colin has been a piper in the band for over 15 years and Gillian has been long involved with the committee. As part of their celebrations, the Band played at the wedding reception.
“Going forward, the band is booked for a selection of engagements including events such as Aberlour Highland Games, Braemar Gathering, the St Andrews Parade in Inverurie and also the 45th Anniversary of the disbandment of the Cameronian Highlanders at the Cameronian Conventical in Douglas, Lanarkshire.”
