ELLON Rotarians have issued a call for talented young musicians to come forward and take part in a local heat of Rotary’s ‘Young Musician of the Year’ contest.
Together with David Birse, Head of Music at Ellon Academy, the club is hoping to encourage young musicians and singers aged between 11 and 17, who live in the Ellon Academy catchment area, to put their talents on display.
Through the competition process, the club hopes to send the successful performer to compete at the North of Scotland District finals in Perth and ultimately, to the UK-wide finals in Bournemouth next April.
The first round is due to be held in Ellon Parish Church on 28 January at 7pm, with the District heat taking place on 3 March.
Ellon Rotarians Alan Gibson and Ken Gill met up with some possible entrants at Ellon Academy on Friday lunchtime to mark the opening of entries to the competition.
“Last year’s RIBI Young musician Competition was such a success that we decided to sponsor and organise the competition again for 2012”, said Mr Gibson.
“We hope that as many people as possible will come along to Ellon Parish Church to support and encourage these talented young musicians.”
Entry forms are available either from Mr Birse at the Academy, or through Ken Gill on 01358 720348 or by email on firstname.lastname@example.org. All entry forms must be returned by 18th January 2012.
