ORGANISERS have hailed a record turnout at Ellon Gala this year, as visitors flocked from across the north-east to sample the events on offer.
Ellon Round Table, who organise the event every year, had expressed their intentions beforehand for the gala to be the biggest and best event yet - and they didn’t disappoint.
Wayne Baber of the Round Table told the Times: “We had a big turnout, and our ‘It’s A Knockout’ event was a huge success. There were plenty of food choices and side-stalls who all reported a successful year. Blue Toon Radio also did a smashing job playing music on the day, and we sold out our BBQ food.
“Once it’s tallied up, the profits should come to around £3000, which is the most we’ve ever raised from a gala. The police told us they thought there was something like 4000 people in attendance, and we haven’t heard a bad word said about the event. We were really lucky with the weather - it was lovely right until we stopped, so we were lucky with our timing.
“The competitors in the Knockout challenge have all said that they would be really keen to compete next year, so if we hold that event again we’ve already got a pool of willing participants.
“Now we just have to organise the Bonfire Night!
