Farmer fined £9,000 for pollution offence

An Aberdeenshire farmer has been fined £9,000 for contravening pollution laws.

Ian Davidson, of Moss-side, Oldmeldrum, admitted the offence, which occurred between February 8 and March 18 last year.

He pled guilty at Aberdeen Sheriff Court to a charge brought under the Environmental Protection Act of managing and disposing of hazardous, non-hazardous and inert controlled wastes at his farm.

Davidson was formally warned about the problem by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency in 2009 following a complaint by a member of the public.

He had complied with instructions at the time to tidy the site at Old Balgove and remove the offending wastes, but SEPA inspectors found further problems with controlled wastes in 2010 and 2011.
