AN ELLON councillor has urged residents in the town not to use a path which is currently closed for repairs.
Cllr Gillian Owen made the plea after the barriers blocking the path were moved. She added that the path was scheduled to be upgraded in April, and that, until then, residents should avoid using it.
Cllr Owen said: “I am at a loss to understand why locals have removed this barrier when it has been put up on safety grounds. I know it is a hassle having to go the long way round, but what if is someone has an accident on this path!
“Everyone agrees it is in a very poor state and needs attention, the council recognised this and have closed it and they have agreed to carry out works on it in the 2013/14 budget, even though it is not the Councils responsibility. This negligent act could put pedestrians at risk.
“The works to make the path safe have been included in the next financial budget, which starts in April, and once these are carried out the path will be re-opened - but in the mean time can I make a plea to the residents please do not remove the barriers, put safety first and walk that little extra way.”
