ROTARIANS have announced that this year’s Ellon pedal Car race is set to take place on Sunday, August 26.

The announcement means that this year’s race will be the third the town has hosted, with a day of events which the town has enthusiastically embraced. Race founder Simon Hailey, who had organised the first two races, approached the town’s Rotary club for support, and will continue to lend advice.

Simon said: “I am really delighted that the Rotary is taking over. It’s going to be in good hands and I’m remaining involved as a team member. My role sounds very grand – I’m now the Pedal Car Race consultant!”

Rotary spokeswoman Eleanor Macalister told the Times that it was time for competitors to dust down their pedalcars, and for new entrants to start planning their own entrants.

She said: “Check it’s in good working order, make a new one, get your team together and get prepared for an awesome, fun-filled event! The entry fee is a minimum £100 per team and information on this as well as registering will be available on the website. The event is held in conjunction with a series of cycle road races held during the morning of Race Day. This is one of the only “closed road” cycle races in Scotland and usually attracts a large number of entries from throughout the country.
