The escalating problem of grey squirrels in Ellon will soon be put under the spotlight.

Ellon Biodiversity Action Group (EBAG) is holding its annual open evening on Wednesday, November 7,

High on the agenda will be the threat to the red squirrel population from an influx of the grey variety.

EBAG spokesman Bob Davis said: “The town has a good population of red squirrels, but dring the past year there has been a minor invasion of the North American grey squirrel.

“It is very important to keep the grey squirrels out of Ellon and the surrounding area and we have been in discussion with the Red Squirrel Protection Officer for this area, who will be attending the meeting.”

The open evening will be in Ellon Community Centre at 7.30pm.
