A NORTH East MP has said that a third crossing over the River Don is ‘essential’ to relieve commuter congestion for those living north of the river.
Gordon Lib Dem MP Malcolm Bruce made his comments as he spoke at the public local inquiry into the proposed crossing.
“It is clear that the existing infrastructure in Aberdeen does not meet the needs of residents in towns north of the city, including Ellon and Balmedie”, he said.
“Towns and villages north of the Don have grown significantly in recent times. This is set to continued in the future, with the Energetica corridor between Aberdeen and Peterhead identified as an area for further residential and commercial development.
“There is no doubt in my mind that a third Don crossing is essential if we are to relieve congestion that currently affects many commuters to and from the Ellon area. I hope that the Scottish Government Reporter takes a positive view of this development.”
The public local inquiry into the project concluded last week. The Reporter will now consider the evidence submitted.
