A LOCAL civic group are celebrating, after an announcement that they will be receiving thousands of pounds from local golf enthusiasts.

Organisers of Better Balmedie are set to receive the cheque for £2300 from representatives of Balmedie White Horse Golf Society at the Leisure Centre on Saturday. The money, which will go towards beautifying the village, was raised following the Golf Society’s social event in November. This is the second year of the award, with last year’s £1200 award going to Balmedie Primary School.

Golf Society Chairman John Cooper told the Times that members had voted on a good cause to donate the money to, and that Better Balmedie had emerged the winner.

“It’s a really good cause, and everybody thought Better Balmedie were doing a great job,” he said. “The society has been on to go for two full years now, and our social event is not only a great chance to have a night out, but it’s an opportunity for members to collect some money for good, local causes.”

Better Balmedie Spokeswoman Rosie Nicol told the Times: “We will use this money to make improvements around the village - it will enable members to buy equipment and create further floral displays.

“We are delighted to be given this funding, and will make good use of it throughout the year!”
