Ellon Civic Pride held their first litter pick of the season on Saturday in this, their 10th anniversary.

Volunteers turned out in force to clear up the Meiklemill area and filled several bags of rubbish.

Further litter picks in other parts of the town will be held on Saturday, March 16, and Saturday, March 30.

Civic Pride co-ordinator Frances Watson said: “It is good to get the season under way. With the shrubs down at the moment, you really do see the litter.

“The council do their bit and we work well with them. We see ourselves as an extra pair of hands.”

She said letters were going out to local businesses about sponsorship of hanging baskets in the town.

Frances added: “They bring a splash of colour to Ellon in the summer and we hope there will be a good response from businesses.”

The cost of sponsoring a basket is £25.
