Pitmedden Music Festival has announced that this year it will be a Fairtrade event.

The festival, which is being held on June 12 and 13, is a community-run charity and organisers have taken up the challenge to ensure that the majority of the food and drink products they sell will be fairly traded.

It made sense to ensure that as many of the products we use and sell are fairly traded

Angie Stemp Festival Director

Festival director Angie Stemp said: “It made sense to ensure that as many of the products we use and sell are fairly traded.

“So many farmers around the world don’t receive a fair price for the produce they sell, so to support the campaign for Fairtrade is the right thing to do.

“It’s not difficult these days to source Fairtrade products, and every year more and more become available.”

The festival has always had a Fairtrade bar with wines selected for that purpose with the local Formartine Fairtrade Group at the centre of the drive to promote the brand.

Anne Aspden, group chairperson, said “The Formartine Fairtrade group is delighted that the Pitmedden Music Festival is supporting Fairtrade.

“Such a vibrant community project is a perfect place to celebrate trade justice.

“We can enjoy our beer, wine, chocolate and snacks knowing our partners across the world have been paid a fair price and have opportunities to develop their own communities.

“This gives an added bonus to what looks like being a fantastic weekend.”

There is a full programme of entertainment and music over the course of the two-day festival, with camping also available.

Tickets start at £4 with under 12’s gaining free entry, and no charge for any of the children’s activities including bouncy castles.

The festival is being held in the grounds of the picturesque National Trust for Scotland’s Pitmedden Garden.

Tickets are available from Aberdeen Box Office.
