The Falkland Islands have placed its biggest order yet with an Inverurie firm to supply them with new homes.

Timber frame manufacturers Scotframe Timber Engineering Ltd sent 20 timber frame packages for new homes to the Falklands last Friday.

The order, which was placed by Morrison (Falklands) Ltd, included 20 houses made up of ten blocks of two.

The timber frame kits were shipped in 32 steel containers loaded in Inverurie to Tilbury Docks for storage and shipping, through South America to the Falklands.

The order is expected to arrive by late January 2014.

Marketing manager, Peter Hall, said that shipping to the Falklands is not a new experience for the company.

Peter told the Times: “A local builder went to the Falklands some years ago and thought that there was a place there for our work- that’s how it started.

“We ship over a few kits there each year, but we have never had a one off order quite as substantial as this before.

“If we were approached, we would be happy to supply to other locations, as we know we can handle it no problem.”
