Sarah Franklin, owner of The Hair Shop, Kemnay, has been fundraising for her trip to India to teach the disadvantaged children of the SOS Village in Kolkata a skill for life in hairdressing.

Sarah called for the help of members of the local community to dig deep as she set up a Table Sale outside her shop all week, in an effort to raise money. The Table Sale lasted for a week, and Sarah says it was a great success as they made £430, she said, “When everyone heard where the money was going they were very generous and didn’t haggle which was great.”

Sarah is one of eight UK volunteers joining Shaping Futures, a social initiative set up by Schwarzkopf Professional in partnership with SOS Children’s Villages. The scheme sends hairdressers to India to teach 30 students the art of hairdressing, helping less privileged young people create a career for themselves which they can put to good use when they leave the village.

As part of the initiative, each volunteer must raise £3,000 to cover the cost of all flights and accommodation, and Sarah’s latest fundraiser has definitely helped.

The Shaping Futures team will travel to Kolkata in October this year, if you’d like to donate to Shaping Futures, please visit The Hair Shop in Kemnay, or call the salon on (01467) 642177.
