The countdown is under way to Ellon’s popular pedal car race.
This year’s event, officially launched last week, will be held on Sunday, August 24.
The town centre race is in its fifth year and is organised by Ellon Rotary Club in partnership with Ythan Cycle Club and other organisations.
Rotarian and race chairman Mike Watson said at the launch: “It is an opportunity to have a fun event in the community, for the community by the community, providing an atmosphere that everyone can enjoy whilst at the same time being able to fund-raise for worthwhile causes.”
Rotary club president Donny Chisholm presented a cheque for £6500 - from the 2013 race - to Anna Fell, of Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre in Aberdeen.
Mr Watson thanked Morrison Motors, Turriff, last year’s main race sponsor, and others who contributed to the overall success of the day.
The 2014 event will support two charities, Kayleigh’s Wee Stars and the ALEC (Aberdeenshire Life Education Centres).
Colin Allanach, Ythan Cycle Club chairman, also spoke of his club’s involvement which sees a series of closed road races for five age groups ranging form under 8’s to under 16’s. He advised that the races, which last year saw a record entry of 77 cyclists from all over Scotland, come under the auspices of Scottish Cycling, supported by Scottish Power.
