A Tarves couple have marked 50 years of marriage with a family get-together.
Love blossomed for Willie and Helen Howie when they met at the village shop, and family and friends gathered at the Aberdeen Arms Hotel on Saturday to celebrate the golden milestone.
The couple declined gifts for the occasion, instead asking for donations to go to Auchtercrag Care Home in Ellon.
Helen, 70, and Willie, 71, were married in Tarves Church after striking up a friendship at the local shop.
She recalled: “It was Duthies of Tarves where I worked and we just got talking. We went to the dances after that.”
Willie worked for many years at North Ythsie Farm.
Helen said: “We had a great night on Saturday and there were 53 people there. Everyone enjoyed themselves.
“We had around £465 in donations which will go to Auchtercrag. We’d like to thank everyone so much for being so generous.”
The couple have a son and a daughter and five grandchildren.
Helen said patience is the key to a happy marriage.
She added: “You need to have a lot of give and take, but plenty of patience is really what you need.”
