AN ELLON couple are preparing to don their walking gear again for charity.

George and Frances Jaffray, who call themselves the Golden Oldies, are all set to tackle the Formartine and Buchan Way next month.

The walk will be in aid of the Eve Appeal, which was launched in 2005 to help save women’s lives by funding research into gynaecological cancers and raising awareness of the diseases.

Frances lost her sister Elizabeth to ovarian cancer in 2005 and the couple, who will both be 70 this year, chose the charity for this year’s fundraiser.

In recent years they have walked the West Highland Way, the Speyside Way and the Fife Coastal Path, raising nearly £2,000 for charitable causes.

Frances told the Times: “We haven’t set a date for the walk yet, but it will be in March.

“We will complete it over a week. It’s about 55 miles so we will be doing roughly 10-12 miles a day.

“We are both members of Ellon Ramblers and really enjoy walking.”

George added: “I do a six-mile walk every day. Walking is a great way to see the countryside and at the same time do something like this to raise money for a worthy cause.”
