A BIG-HEARTED local Golden Wedding couple have managed to raise almost £700 for a North-East cancer charity, after urging friends and relatives to give donations rather than presents.

Ellon couple Peter and Sheila Morrison held their celebration with 74 guests at the town’s McDonald Golf Club, with a meal and music for dancing provided by ‘Country Edition’. In total, the evening raised £677.60 for the ‘Friends of Anchor’ charity.

Friends of ANCHOR was set up in 1997 to raise funds on behalf of the ANCHOR unit in Aberdeen, and has a support area extending throughout the north east of Scotland including Orkney and Shetland. The unit, a fully-funded NHS department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s Forestehill site, brings together experts and specialist nursing support to coordinate the care of patients with all forms of cancer, leukaemia and benign blood disorders such as haemophilia.

Speaking afterwards, Mr and Mrs Morrison offered their thanks to all who had helped to make the donation possible.

“We’d like to thank everyone for their generosity”, said Mr Morrison. “It was a good night, which everyone enjoyed, and we’re really pleased to that our family and friends have been able to raise this amount for such a good cause.”
