Golfers raise £6,000 for Befriend A Child

More than £6,000 was raised for local children’s charity Befriend A Child at its fifth annual fundraising golf challenge recently.

Over 60 golfers, representing a host of local companies and organisations, took part in the event at Oldmeldrum Golf Club last Friday (May 25) with a raffle, auction, drinks buggy and ‘Beat the Pro’ challenge all contributing to the fantastic total raised on the day.

The 18-hole, Texas Scramble competition was won by G.O.T Ltd, with Prospect Flow Solutions in second place and the Dunavon Hotel coming third.

Befriend A Child’s Fundraising Development Manager, Duncan Peter, said the event was a great success.

He said: “We were exceptionally lucky with the weather as the sun shone for the entire day and we would like to thank all the teams for coming along and supporting us, our sponsors, and all the staff at Oldmeldrum Golf Club for being such wonderful hosts.”

Befriend A Child is Scotland’s oldest befriending service for disadvantaged children. Working with social workers, care homes, health visitors and other charities, Befriend A Child supports vulnerable and underprivileged youngsters aged four to 16 through its dedicated, one-to-one service.

Befriend A Child recruits caring adults to befriend and support individual children In doing so volunteers help to promote the children’s welfare and advance their education.

Befrienders can introduce the children to new activities and interests which might not otherwise be available to them. Experience shows that children can gain confidence and self-esteem by enjoying a trusting relationship with a caring adult. This relationship is a valuable aid to the children’s development which in turn helps them mature into responsible adults.
