His fiancee Jennifer’s mother was cared for in Roxburghe House, the specialist palliative care unit in Aberdeen.

Lynn McLeay, 51, died in September, 2012, from a rare form of cancer. William, 30, vowed he would undertake a charity fundraising event in her memmory.

And the Cruden Bay member, teed off at 3.50am and finished at 6.10pm to keep his pledge. He has raised £2785.

He covered 13 hours and 50 minutes of golf play and took a brief mid-morning break, which allowed him a shower to freshen up.

The offshore worker had an app on his phone which tracked the miles he had walked, which was 27.25 miles. After totalling up his score cards he was 56 over par.

The couple’s family gathered to see him play the final hole and proudly congratulate him on his incredible achievement.

William, a six handicapper, said: “I would like to thank everyone for their support and donations, I am completely overwhelmed.

“A thank you to those who supported me throughout the day by walking round, keeping me fed and watered. Thank you to the club for allowing me to complete the charity event and to all those who played on the day who allowed me to play through.”

“I felt fine throughout, apart from the last couple of rounds where I started to feel it in my feet. All in all, I was happy to finish around three hours ahead of my planned finishing time and complete the challenge in memory of Lynn.”

Cruden Bay general manager Les Durno said everyone at the club was delighted for him.

He added: “The speed at which he went round was fantastic and his score was amazing too.

“It’s some feat to complete that number of holes - it’s an amazing achievement.”
