DISCERNING diners in the north-east had a rare treat last week, when the Udny Station Hotel opened its doors for a ‘Scottish gourmet Evening’ as part of Scottish Food Fortnight.

Regular customers were treated to a performance on the pipes by piper Gillian Merchant, and Doric recitals by Jake Simpson before trying some of the canapés on offer and sampling a specially laid out selection of wines, with commentary by professional wine taster Matthew Clark.

The main menu showcased the best of Scottish foods, with locally produced fish, meat, ice creams and cheeses.

Hotel proprietor Aileen Andrew, who has ran the hotel for seven years and also owns the Kintore Arms Inn at Kintore, said that the objective of the evening was to demonstrate some of Scotland’s finest ingredients expertly cooked, by daughter Aileen who is the hotel’s talented chef.
