The Cetco Ythan Challenge has distributed a share of £11,000 to a number of community groups as a result of last year’s event.

Alison Chalmers, chairwoman of the Cetco Ythan Challenge organising committee, said: “The Cetco Ythan Challenge has a history of giving the proceeds of each year’s race to local causes and it’s fantastic £11,000 is being shared among a number of groups.

“It’s great to be able to support local good causes and it’s pleasing the money is being shared among groups with members across all ages.

“The event wouldn’t be the success it is without the help of our volunteers from a number of these groups so a special thank you needs to go to all of these organisations.”

The groups that provided support before and on the day and received a share of the money are as follows:

Aberdeen Surfers (£200), Alan Middleton trust (£350), Ellon Boys Brigade (£500), Ellon Hockey Club (£400), Ellon Meadows Sports Centre (£450), Ellon Round table (£400), Victoria Hall (£100), Ellon Girl Guides (£200), Aberdeen Coastguards (£400), Ellon ATC (£400) and Ellon Meadows FC (200).

The organisations selected for support in 2016 are as follows:

Ellon Boys Brigade - marquee replacement (£2,500), Ellon and District Men’s Shed (£1,000), Meiklemill Primary School Library (£1,000), Ellon Meadows Trampoline (£2,000) and Ellon parkrun - defibrillator (£900).

The 2017 Cetco Ythan Challenge will be held on Sunday, June 18.
