SCHOOLS from the Ellon Times coverage area are being invited to compete in a very special Guy Fawkes-themed event this November!
This year, the Ellon Times have teamed up with Ellon Round Table to help organise the now annual Guy Fawkes competition, where local pupils compete to see who can create the best ‘Guy’ for Ellon Bonfire Night.
Last year there were nine excellent entries from schools in the town. This year, we are inviting schools from all over Formartine to compete in the event, with the winning entry taking pride of place on top of the fire.
The entertainments - resurrected by Ellon Round Table last year after a fifteen year absence - will see a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display, with hot and old food available for visitors. There will also be glowsticks and glow necklaces.
Round Table spokesman Wayne Baber told the Times that this year’s bonfire was set to build even on last year’s successful event.
“It’s going to be a bigger, brighter, louder, better overall night with more things going on,” he said. “Some of these aren’t finalised yet. For the small cost to get in, it’s a great show - if we can get £1 per person, we can do it every year.
“This year we’re looking into the possibility of getting a couple of good quality carnival rides to come, though that hasn’t been finalised yet. We’ll also aim to have bouncy castles, trampolines and a raft of other entertainments.
“Last year’s Guy Fawkes competition was a huge success, with Auchterellon’s senior class emerging winners with their ‘Shrek’ Guy.”
The evening commences at 5.30pm with music, the bonfire is scheduled to be lit at 7pm, and the Fireworks - by Aurora Fireworks - will commence at around 7.45pm.
Judging will take place on Saturday, November 3 in the Gordon Park prior to the fireworks taking place.
Schools who wish to take part can submit up to four entries, which should be completed three days before the bonfire. Schools interested in entering should contact the Ellon Times at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phoning 01358 724488.
