Inverurie’s own Commonwealth Gold medalist Hannah Miley and fellow Scottish gold medalist Ross Murdoch joined more than 150 swimmers as they took part in Scottish Gas SwimBritain at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Glasgow on Sunday, (September 28).
Now in its second year, Scottish Gas SwimBritain encourages more people to swim regularly and saw the decorated stars of British Swimming as well as celebrities such as David Walliams join the public in the water at 11 locations across Britain between August 30, and October 4.
Participants competed as teams of four to complete relay challenges of 500m and 1,000m before receiving their hard-earned medals, with some swimmers using the event to raise funds for charity.
The event at Glasgow enabled competitors and spectators to experience the electric atmosphere that Glasgow was treated to during the 2014 Commonwealth Games, whilst enjoying this with some of the heroes of the games.
Scottish Gas SwimBritain ambassador, Hannah Miley said, “It’s great to be a part of SwimBritain in Glasgow this year. To be able to come back to where I won my Commonwealth Gold medal and at the same time, encourage others to take up swimming is fantastic.
“Scottish Gas SwimBritain seeks to inspire people of all ages to become more involved in swimming, which is something I am extremely passionate about. I am proud to be involved in encouraging the next generation of British swimmers.
Ross Murdoch, who also swam during the day said: ‘Swimming is a massive part of my life and something that I love to do. To be able to share this passion through the Scottish Gas SwimBritain initiative is something that is both important to me and to the future of British Swimming.”
