Barnardo’s Scotland has welcomed news that it is to receive investment to expand the organisation’s ‘You First’ programme across Scotland, bringing it to Grampian for the first time.
You First is a 20-week programme for new parents aged under 21 with a baby under the age of one. The programme involves a mix of practical and group work to help improve parenting skills and support parents in accessing other services within their communities.
In addition to gaining improved parenting skills, parents are supported with financial planning, budgeting, preparing healthy meals and are supported to attain a Bronze Youth Achievement Award.
SallyAnn Kelly, Acting Director of Barnardo’s Scotland said the investment would enable the charity to ‘significantly expand’ its You First Programme in eight new health board areas across Scotland. “We have piloted this work over the past 18 months and the outcomes for young people and their children have been excellent”, she said.
