A GROUP of Ellon friends have given a cancer charity a boost through a fundraising night.

Pals Diane Clark, Alice Todd, Anne Hill, Margaret Matthews, Lorna Peace and Elaine Gordon got together to organise an evening of entertainment for Cancer Research UK.

Nearly 200 friends and family turned up at the town’s New Inn on Saturday night and the event raised just over £4,000.

Jason Porter performed two sets on the night and was assisted by DJ Nick.

The full house enjoyed an evening of dancing, laughter and friendship.

Margaret said: “We are a group of friends and decided we wanted to do something for cancer research.

“The night, in memory of a special friend and others who have fought cancer, was organised to raise funds in aid of Cancer Research UK. “During the evening a raffle and silent auction was held and along with donations a total of just over £4,000 will be handed over to the charity.

“We’d like to thank several local businesses for their support and for their generous raffle donations, and to those individuals who also gave generously both with raffle prizes and monetary donations.

“Also a huge thanks to the very generous crowd who attended the event. We’re absolutely delighted withn the amount that was raised. It’s amazing so much was raised.”

The group of friends hope to hand over a cheque to Cancer Research UK in the next two weeks. The organisation’s aim is to save lives from cancer through funding world-class research, providing information for patients, health professionals and the public, and influencing public policy to keep cancer at the top of the health agenda.
