Ellon student aims high with concert for Kenyan expedition

A FORMER Ellon Academy pupil is organising a special musical evening to raise funds for two upcoming international trips.

Robert Cruickshanks, who is now studying immunology and pharmacology at the University of Aberdeen, told the Times that the concert - to be held in the Old Academy on March 15 - was to raise money for two international trips he was planning to make this year.

“The concert itself will be to raise money for a trip to Kenya,” he told the Times. “I’d be going for two weeks, and would be helping to renovate a medical centre. In order to go, however, I have to fundraise for the John Thornton young Achievers Foundation, who I would be travelling with.

“The other trip - which I’d like to fund through the raffle - is to Estonia this summer, where I’d like to teach English.”

The student, who campaigned for the Greens in Ellon Academy’s school elections two years ago, added that he was keen to get a good turnout.

“Tickets only cost three pounds, and there will be a great selection of talented local bands and singers, jazz performances and a performance from Aberdeen University’s Dance Club.”

Tickets to the event are available from Costcutters and at Ellon Academy, costing £3 which includes the cost of entry to Robert’s Estonian Raffle. The doors open at 6.45 for 7pm, running until 10pm.
